Not Much Going On

Well, I thought I should post something since it's been soooo long. I haven't done much letterboxing this past year. I don't really know why, I just haven't. Lately I've been really missing it though. I don't really feel like going to any big gatherings or anything, just spending time outside. Anyone want to go enjoy the great outdoors with me?

I went hiking this past weekend and realized how much I needed to "just get out an box". Maybe I'll go this weekend!

Lying

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR

I have to say that I am appalled at the number of event organizers who now think it is okay to lie about who we are just so they're able to hold an event somewhere. It seems like this is now becoming the trend and I can't stand it. Kudos to those of you who are being honest. I understand the question of "do we lie about who we are to protect the boxes that are in the area? or should we be honest and risk it?" or the whole publicity of the hobby debate. You should always try and ask permission to plant a box no matter where you put it anyways. If more people did this, than boxes wouldn't be put in jeopardy. Has anyone ever taken into consideration the fact that more places might be more receptive to the idea of letterboxing if they knew that the people participating were respectful and honest?

It just really bugs me that people feel they have to lie to cover up what they're doing. The last thing we want to do is become Geocachers.

Burned out? Is there such a thing?

Recently I have realized that I just don't care much about letterboxing right now. Don't get me wrong, I still love the hunt, but I have no interest in getting caught up in the craziness that has become letterboxing. I almost feel like I just need to get back to the basics.

I recently introduced my new boyfriend Chris to the hobby by taking him on Giddy's 13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird (wonderful, by the way). We went out with Nautilus and Culex and we had an awesome time. It was a 2 mile walk through the woods. It was so nice to get out and just enjoy the area instead of obsessing over the finds. Chris found a few of the boxes and saw a deer, too! Even though the sun was going down as we exited the woods, we never once felt like we had to hurry, hurry, hurry. I guess my new lesson is to slow down and enjoy the hike again.
